The town of Dimitrovgrad has short but intriguing history, closely connected with the Youth brigade movement. The town was established on 2nd September 1947, by the Regulation of the Council of Ministers. The tourists of the town can visit the Historical Museum, but also the Art Gallery "Petko Churchuliev", the House Museum "Penyo Penev" and the Planetarium "Jordano Bruno".

The Historical Museum Dimitrovgrad has three exhibition halls - two permanent exhibitions and another hall.

The exhibition "Youth brigade movement in Bulgaria 1946-1988" is placed in Hall 1. It traces all stages of the movement- a movement, which has its week and strong points, magnified and disputed, but which have left lasting traces in the newest Bulgarian history.

As long as the Museum have existed, it has always been the Museum of Dimitrovgrad. This topic is represented in all exhibitions and is main for the exhibition Hall 2 "Dimitrovgrad". The whole scale development of the town: emergence and settlement, economic and community changes, cultural life, international relations, all is represented in this exhibition.
Temporary exhibitions and cultural days are all held in Hall 3.

• 1951 - A Museum of the socialistic construction was established from the archives of the Town National Council. Its main function was to present the construction of and the development of the new town.
• 1951 - The first constant exhibition, which represents the communal-economic, spiritual and cultural life of the town of Dimitrovgrad was opened.
• 1963 - The museum developed into a "District museum of socialistic construction"
• 1976 - "Fine Art" Section was separately set up
• 1980 - House- museum "Penyo Penev" was established.
• 1983 - The Culture Committee changed the profile of the museum from "District Museum for socialistic development" to "Museum of the youth brigade movement in Bulgaria".
• 1986 - For the 40th Anniversary since the beginning of the brigade movement in Bulgaria, the museum organised National Scientific Conference on this topic.
• 1987 - A new exhibition with two separate topics was set up:
- "Youth brigade movement in Bulgaria 1946-1986"
- "Dimitrovgrad"
• 1998 - The Ministry of Culture renamed the Museum of Brigade movement in Bulgaria - Dimitrovgrad into a Historical Museum, and two sections were characterized:
- "New and newest history"
- "Ethnography"
