The Historical Museum in Karnobat was established in 1924 by Atanas Ignatiev Karaivanov. It has been a state museum since 1953. It has rich collections of archeological monuments, which prove the rich cultural heritage of the Karnobat region, ethnographical specimens, revealing its ages-long material and spiritual culture and natural signs.
The House-Museum "Dimitar Polyanov" was found on 23 November 1973 and posses rich collection, including documents, photographs, newspapers, magazines, books, paintings and manuscripts of Dimitar Polyanov and the Karnobat poet and novelist Ivan Karanovski and Minko Nevolin.
The collected Archeological materials from Prehistory, ancient and Middles Ages epochs, as well as the many years archeological research since 1986 until today, reveal the multiple sides of the rich spectrum of historical processes that happened on these lands. The archeological excavations and the materials from the collection trace the history, customs, culture, funeral rites and practices, the art of the local Thracian settlement, as well as the influence of the Greek and Roman cultures. The role and the significance of the Karnobat Fortress Markeli (during Bulgarian Middle Ages, especially in the period First Bulgarian Kingdom), from which is disclosed a unique Christian rite complex and the most impressive old Bulgarian earth establishments on the Balkans. |
