The Bulgarian National Revival Exposition traces back the history of the town of Plovdiv in the period XV-XIX c. The visitors are able to touch and be absorbed into the atmosphere of the remote past of the town owing to the rich material, documental and picture evidences of the exposition. The above mentioned period is a time of foreign rule, a time of maintaining the national identity of the Bulgarian people.

Within the boundaries of the Ottoman Empire, Plovdiv developed as a significant economic and administrative center. Turks, Bulgarians, Greeks, Armenians, Jews, Gypsies, etc. lived together in it. From the second half of XVIII century a process of making the big town a Bulgarian one began, as in the middle of XIX century the Bulgarian element was already predominant. The Bulgarians established their leading position in the economic life of the Empire and began a struggle for national education, independent Bulgarian church and national independence. A lot of exposition space is taken by the final stage of the struggle for liberation of Bulgaria – the April uprising of 1876 and the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878.

The GEORGIADI House is a national monument of culture, one of the most beautiful examples of the architecture of the Bulgarian national revival. It was a property of a wealthy tradesman Dimitar Georgiadi. The house was erected in 1848 by the eminent Bulgarian master-builder Hadzhi Georgi. The house represents the widely spread in the 19th century a Plovdiv type of symmetric house. The ground floor is formed as an indoor courtyard with pavement. The whole building is characteristic of its beautifully carved wooden ceilings, cornices, built-in cupboards and richly decorated wall recesses, called alafranga. The first floor is notable for its large salon with an ingenious platform on the right side, raised four steps above the ground. It served as a band-stand at parties and receptions.

The house was thoroughly restored in 1958 after the project of the famous architect Christo Peev and after that refreshed and drawn several times. The Museum of the Bulgarian Revival adapted this building and opened the doors in 1961. The last restoration was in 2007.
